My background and approach

Healing is always available—a mindful breath, a hug, a smile. And sometimes we benefit from extra support: the compassionate, nonjudgmental presence of another person, an outside witness holding space for the body to shift. My intention in my work is to create this support and to offer you a safe and restful container to connect with yourself. Being with your own body just as it is in any given moment is a beautiful gift, not only to yourself but to those around you as well. I feel privileged to facilitate this.

Many people in my field step into their practice at a young age. Not me. I spent my twenties and into my thirties working with texts, often copyediting, and I lived in beautiful places—Michigan with its dirt roads and lakes; Berlin, Germany; Ireland. It was only when I reached my mid-thirties that I started to feel a pull back to Appalachia, where I grew up. I also knew that —after years of injury, illness, and recurring pain—I wanted to feel at home in my own body. In one form or another, this has been my commitment for the past six years. It’s been deeply meaningful to begin to support others with similar intentions along the way.

Being with bodies is not as different from working with texts as you might expect. The body speaks its own magical language. One-on-one work allows me to be in that poetry, observing what is, reflecting it back, and offering gentle suggestions. Because of my background, I understand both self-responsibility in healing, and the importance of being seen and held in times of transitions. And at the most basic level, I simply want you to have a really nice massage, bodywork, or energy work session!

Reiki Lineage

The Reiki system is lineage based, meaning that every student is located in a line of teachers going back to the originator of the system, Mikao Usui. I teach under the Usui Reiki Ryoho lineage, which can be traced as follows:

Usui Mikao (founder)

Kanichi Taketomi

Koyama Kimiko

Doi Hiroshi

Frans Stiene

Bronwen Logan

Ifetayo White

My practice is also influenced by my teacher for my first and second degrees, Elayne Crystal, who belongs to the Usui Shiki Reiki Ryoho lineage. Much gratitude to my Reiki teachers and mentors, and to all lineage holders who preserve and uniquely embody this spiritual system.
